Questions we get asked
What is Bow & Budget?
A gift-guide site organized by who you are buying for and what you want to spend. Every list is capped at under $25, $50, $100 or $250, and the launch categories are watches and accessories.
Who writes the recommendations?
Michael W., the hands-on owner behind The First Buyer. There is no editorial team and no guest contributors — one person researches and selects every pick, and his name is on every page.
Do you test the products you recommend?
No, and we never imply we do. We are not a testing lab. What we do is verify each pick is currently sold, check what buyers consistently report, stick to published specifications, and keep every pick inside the budget on its page. The how-we-choose page sets that out in full.
Why are there no prices on your pages?
Because prices change weekly and a printed price is wrong within days. Several well-known gift guides are currently serving prices stamped months ago. Every pick here links to the live listing, so the number you see is the number being charged right now.
How do the budget tiers work?
A tier is a hard ceiling, not a suggestion. If a page says under $50, the most expensive thing on it is under $50. We place picks conservatively — well inside a ceiling rather than a dollar below it — and re-check quarterly.
What if a pick has drifted above its tier?
Tell us and it comes off the page. Because we do not print prices, we rely on quarterly reviews and reader reports to catch drift. That report is genuinely one of the most useful emails we get.
Why are there no star ratings?
We have not tested these products, so a score from us would look like evidence without being any. You will not find star ratings, out-of-ten numbers or review counts anywhere on this site, including hidden in the page code.
Why are there no customer testimonials?
Because this site is new and has none. A clean page beats an invented quote, and fabricated testimonials are the fastest way for a site to deserve no trust at all.
How does Bow & Budget make money?
Affiliate commission. If you buy through a link here we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. The affiliate disclosure page covers it in full.
Does commission decide what you recommend?
No. Products are chosen against the criteria on the how-we-choose page, and the top pick on a page is the one we think is the best choice for that page's buyer. Where a cheaper retailer is better for you, we link to the cheaper retailer even when a different one pays more.
Do brands pay to appear on the site?
No. No brand has ever paid for placement, no brand sees a page before it publishes, and there is no sponsored content here. If that ever changes it will be labeled unmistakably.
Why do most links go to Amazon?
Practical reasons rather than commercial ones: it is the retailer most readers already have an account with, and its returns process is the one most likely to work if a gift is wrong. Where another retailer is genuinely better for the buyer, we link there instead.
Some links are subscriptions. How do I know?
The button says so and the page says so. A subscription keeps billing until it is canceled, which is not a detail to bury in small print, so we call it out at the link itself.
What size watch should I buy as a gift?
Roughly 38 to 40mm for most adult men and 28 to 34mm for most adult women, and err small — a slightly small watch reads as a style choice and a slightly large one looks borrowed. Our sizing guide has a wrist-measurement table.
Will a watch fit when it is unwrapped?
Not if it is on a steel bracelet — those almost always need links removed. Any jeweler does it in about ten minutes. Watches on leather, fabric or resin straps adjust at the buckle and fit straight away.
Is a watch a good gift for someone who does not wear one?
Sometimes. A light, inexpensive watch on a swappable strap is a reasonable bet and costs little if it does not stick. An expensive dress watch for someone who has never worn a watch usually ends up in a box.
How often are pages updated?
Every roundup is reviewed quarterly, and every seasonal page is reviewed by 1 October each year before the season it serves. Each page shows its last-updated date at the top, and that date reflects a real content review rather than a redeployment.
How do I report an error or a discontinued product?
Email contact@bowandbudget.com or use the contact form. Errors are fixed as soon as they are verified, and material corrections are noted on the page rather than quietly edited.
Do you ship products or handle returns?
No. We are a publisher, not a retailer. Orders, shipping, returns and warranty are all matters for the retailer you buy from, under their terms.
Do you use AI to write these pages?
Research, drafting and editing tools may be used. What does not change is accountability: every page is selected and signed off by Michael W., every product is verified as currently sold, and no specification, price, rating or first-hand claim is generated rather than checked.
