What this site is for
Bow & Budget exists to answer one question: I have a specific person and a specific budget, so what do I buy? Almost every other guide in this category is written for the person buying for themselves. That sounds like a small difference and it changes everything.
Someone choosing their own watch wants to compare movements and lug widths. Someone buying a watch for their dad wants to know whether he can swim in it, whether it will fit, and whether he will actually wear it. Those are different articles. This site writes the second one, every time.
Why it is organized by recipient and budget
Because that is how the decision actually happens. You do not start with a product category, you start with a person and a number: fifty dollars for a coworker, a hundred for your brother, two hundred and fifty for an anniversary. So the site is built along those two axes — who it is for, and what you want to spend — and every list has a hard ceiling in its title that the picks respect.
The launch categories are watches and accessories, because that is where a gift buyer is most likely to be sold something they do not understand at a price they cannot judge. More categories follow the same structure.
Who writes it
Michael W. — Michael W. is the hands-on owner behind The First Buyer. He researches and personally selects every pick on Bow & Budget, and decides what makes a list and what does not. There is no editorial team, no expert panel and no guest contributors. One person researches, selects and writes, and their name is on every page.
It is worth being precise about what that does and does not mean. Michael W. does not hold a horological qualification, has not spent a stated number of years in the watch trade, and has not worn, handled or owned the products recommended here. What he does is choose carefully, explain the reasoning in full, and decide what makes a list and what does not. Where a claim cannot be supported, it is cut rather than softened.
If that sounds like a modest set of credentials, it is — and stating it plainly is the point. Half the sites competing in this category have no named author at all, and several imply testing that never happened. Our method is published in full so you can judge it rather than take it on trust.

Nobody pays for placement, no brand sees a page before it publishes, and commission does not affect what is recommended or in what order. Three things you will not find here
- Prices in the copy. They go stale. Every pick links to the live listing where the number is current. See how we choose for why this is a feature rather than a gap.
- Star ratings or review counts. We have not tested these products, so a score from us would be decoration pretending to be evidence.
- Testimonials. This site is new and has no customer reviews, so there are none to show. Inventing them is the fastest way to deserve no trust at all.
